SIDONIO DE SOUSA
Sidonio de Sousa is a winery located in Bairrada, a DOC of the Beiras region in north-central Portugal just inland from the Atlantic Coast. Native Portuguese varietal Baga is Bairrada’s key red grape and serves as the inspiration for the group of wineries known collectively as the “Baga Friends,” a cooperative with one mission – preserving and promoting wines made from this fickle cultivar. Among this group of seven wineries, Sidonio de Sousa is recognized for having amongst the oldest of the Baga vines in Bairrada. The winery continues to make wine in the traditional way, resulting in juicy, fruit‐forward exquisite wines aged in old Portuguese oak, a rarity these days, even in Portugal.
